Wandlore

Wandlore is the ancient practice of understanding the power and properties of wands. It is believed that the wand is an extension of the witch or wizard, and that the wand chooses its master. It encompasses the study of the wand’s magical elements and how they are affected by its user. The composition of a wand is believed to be the key to unlocking its power, with the wood, core, length, and flexibility making each wand as unique as its owner. Through wandlore, wizards and witches can learn how to get the most out of their wand and use it to its fullest potential.

WAND LENGTH

Most wands range between 9 and 15 inches long. Wand makers often match the length of the wand to the height of the witch or wizard; however, this isn't always the case, larger than average wands tend to be drawn towards those with a physical peculiarity or bigger personality whereas abnormally short wands select people whose character lacks something.

WAND FLEXIBILITY

Wand flexibility or rigidity denotes the degree of adaptability or willingness to change based on the wand and owner pair. This factor should not be considered separately from the wand wood, core, or length

WAND WOOD

There are 38 different kinds of wood available for wand making. Only a minority of trees can produce wand quality wood just as a minority of people can produce magic. It takes years of experience to tell which ones have the gift although the job is made easier if botruckles are found nesting in the leaves as they never inhabit non-magic trees.

WAND CORES

The core of a wand is a magical substance placed somewhere within the center of the wand wood and is usually extracted from a magical creature. Cores influence the temperament or behavior of the wand. Wands can contain one core, bits of multiple cores, or in rare cases they can share a core.
